Secretary General Remarks

Dear Delegates, Chairs, and Honourable Guests,

Welcome to the 12th Session of Indonesia Model United Nations!

On behalf of the Indonesia Model United Nations Organizing Team, it is my great honour to invite you to the 12th Session of Indonesia Model United Nations Conference. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the team is preparing to host the conference virtually that will take place from Friday the 4th of February to Sunday the 6th of February 2022.

Our conference prides itself in being the oldest and as the pioneer of Model United Nations competition in Indonesia. Established in 2010, we have provided platforms for college-to-high-school-level delegates to channel their ideas and engaged with other likeminded youth from across more than 16 countries discussing on solutions to the world’s most relevant and urgent matter.

At the 12th Session of Indonesia Model United Nations, we strive to remind the importance of strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development, or known as the No.17 of the Sustainable Development Goals. Therefore, the team is preparing to host 10 councils with wide variety of topics revolving the aforementioned SDG and the team is also setting an ambitious target to invite stakeholders and form meaningful partnership from various backgrounds. Ultimately, the 12th session of Indonesia Model United Nations is willing to contribute back to society through other organizations and assist them on their program.

All of that aside, the team is also working hard to ensure the utmost delegates’ experience while considering the safety given in a virtual format and the wellbeing of our participants. We strictly adhere to our University and States guidelines.

GRAND THEME

Sustainable Development Goals 17

In the 12th Indonesia Model United Nations, we are proud to bring the theme of “Building Bridges and Connecting Stakeholders to Build a Better Action Plan for Sustainable Development”. Suited with SDGs number 17, this theme is inspired by many movements, actions, and programmes that are running to assist member states in achieving their Sustainable Development Goals. It reminds us that in every activity, in whatever we are about to do, either it is for the great of all or the great of ourselves, there must be strong principles backing it up. Just like the famous saying, “A building cannot stand without its foundation”. Hence, in the next edition of Indonesia Model United Nations, we want to focus and provide delegates to learn on how to connect their principles, their pure thoughts into its practicality, and solid solutions with integrating relevant aspects that are attached to the problem. In addition, they can sharpen those connecting skills while simultaneously learning about various relevant stakeholders. We want them to realize that in every sector, every issue, and every aspect there is always ways to improve, connect principles and its practicalities, ensuring that their idea will indeed work, thinking about its consequences, analysing its potential impact, predicting the scope and reach of their solutions, and looking through beyond time achieving development for all. On the twelfth session of Indonesia Model United Nations, we are proud to bring the tagline of “Surely Reaching Our Goals” The end goal of this event is to make delegates able to craft realistic solutions, and leave them mentally prepared to think about the greater for all.

Model United Nations

Model United Nations is an academic simulation, a platform to harvest understanding about the art of diplomacy, negotiation, international relations, global issues, and also the United Nations itself. Each participant will be representing a country or relevant stakeholder to voice out their concerns about the foremost pressing issues present in today's era. As a platform that stresses the importance of careful and detailed research, strategic speech, critical thinking, and leadership ability, each participant will gain essential insights to boost their skill set to tackle challenges, be the change, or lead resolutions within the future. The delegates will engage during a substantive discussion so as to present a comprehensive solution to global challenges, and thus fostering and shaping their capabilities to grasp the abstract idea of the problems and their solutions at the global scale, while also enhancing their critical thinking. Through the previous elaboration, it is clear that Model United Nations is an excellent platform to be presented to the participants and especially to the leaders of tomorrow. It is why it should be exposed to multiple educational levels or youth in different institutions or positions.
